Planetary Resources - Company that wants to Mine the Stars

There is a new Private Space Company on the scene. The company is called Planetary Resources and their goal is to mine for Resources on Asteroids and Comets. Take a look at the MSNBC.com Article:

Thanks earthman for the update and the link. I'm adding to this thread. A website that deals with the tracking all of what NASA does has released several articles about this new company called Planet Resources. The website is called NASAWatch.com Here is the info and the low down on this new company:

I think this is totally awesome but I think these guys are off their rockers if they think their company or even only American companies are going to be the only ones trying this. The guy in the video is all like the first phase is to identify ALL of the asteroids and plan to get to them

No wonder you have some of these clowns calling for the weaponization of space. At least if they start fighting for resources hopefully it will be in space. They can get all their "nuclear steam" out of their systems instead of destroying the planet. But you know a little wrong calculation and its not an oil spill disaster you have to worry about its a giant meteor slamming into the planet causing darkness for several decades or more.

Have you ever turned over any rocks out in a forest or a stream. There always seems to be something living underneath them

On a more positive note these guys are thinking farther ahead than you think. They are going after platinum which is currently the best catalyst in fuel cell systems. If they end up driving the price of platinum way down we can start to use fuel cells to power everything and obviously get rid of our dependence on oil. Maybe it will calm china down a bit on trying to mine and hoard all the earth resources too(i.e. rare earth metals).

I have been saying for a while that we(humans) are poised to move into space or in the deep ocean that includes taking up resource and living there. The technology is definitely there and we just have to do it now. The first few will be the biggest winners though just like in the 1800 american gold rush. Most people made money off of the people coming there not mining gold
